Poundstretcher donates toys to Ronald McDonald House in time for Christmas

Stephen Wright |

The Poundstretcher team has been spreading some festive cheer this week with a special donation of toys to the Ronald McDonald House at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Colleagues at the company’s Leicester headquarters have been hard at work sorting through a huge collection of toys suitable for siblings of children receiving care at the hospital. Led by Buyer Katie Bell, the team carefully selected, packed and prepared the toys to ensure they would bring joy to families staying at the facility over the Christmas period.

The donation was personally delivered to Ronald McDonald House Birmingham by Mick McGowan from TMS Facilities Management (pictured below with Katie Bell and Georgia Kettings). Katie’s young son, Joseph, also joined his mum this week to help hand over the toys, adding an extra touch of festive spirit to the occasion.

Ronald McDonald House Birmingham is one of the charity’s largest purpose-built accommodations in the UK. With 66 bedrooms, plus shared kitchens, lounges and play areas, it provides families with a comforting “home-from-home” while their child is in hospital. The House helps families stay close together, offering vital support 365 days a year.

“We provide accommodation for families with a child in hospital 365 days a year,” said Caroline Sinclair, from the Corporate Partnerships team at Ronald McDonald House Charities UK. “It’s important for us to have gifts such as toys for siblings staying with us over Christmas. Thank you so much to Poundstretcher for recognising this and enabling families to create happy memories despite going through an anxious time.”

Reflecting on the donation, Buyer Katie Bell added: “As a parent myself, it is every mother’s worst nightmare for anything to happen to their child. If our donations can help bring a smile to somebody’s face and spread some Christmas cheer at a difficult time, then I would encourage everyone who can to support.”
